The fungus of decay is taking down live language and turning it into UNITS. Just like the people who can’t break out of sluggish dreams are also turning into units. These people find solace in gobbling juiceless words—sunset with no sun, power with no electric JOLT, and even jokes with no laughter, as if we’ve all been down this road before and here it comes again, except this time they have ads for curing the death of the psyche that doesn’t even know it’s wandering in the labyrinth of a bad town wrecked by failed promises.

I keep blowing away these towns, but more show up. As they would. As they do.

A writer WRITES. That’s what I do. No matter what. My advice to all writers: look to the open spaces, to the territory not yet inhabited, and stake your claim. Open up your language and let it rip. Take on all comers. Outside The Reality Machine is where you belong. If you keep on going, outside, people will show up and read you. They’ll be drawn to you. It’s magnetics. Their subconscious, which is still alive, will be alerted that you exist and you aren’t holding back. That’s what the subconscious wants to know. That’s the assurance it needs.

The reality mongers will feel the impact. On levels they don’t understand, they’ll feel their traps springing but catching fewer minds, less meat. The only thing they can sell is What Already Is. You have everything that Isn’t. Which means you have no limit.

Sometimes, your writing resembles dreams.

For example, I had a dream in which a horse was warning people to stay away from COVID tests.

He was sought by the police, but it turned out he had friends in high places.

Yes, this is unlikely, but it’s a dream, and therefore, so what?

The horse was quite well educated. In a court trial, which only lasted a few seconds, he confounded virologists and drove them to admit their phony science was just a con.

Having been exonerated, the horse went about his business, roaming the streets, eating patches of grass growing up through cracks in the sidewalks, and warning people the test was the gateway into the System, which would destroy them in short order.

If a few readers object to dreams, remind them that they’re more sustaining than facts, in the long run. Dreams give them other worlds.

You see, this is the problem; the lack of faith in other worlds.

When people lose this faith, they don’t like to be reminded of it. So remind them, until they’re forced to start a new path of thinking. A long crooked path, not a straight line.

I’ve walked through many blooming gardens. I never take a straight line. I go where my eye leads me, like the painters.

Speaking of which, some of your best friends, as a writer, are painters. They know what you’re doing. Visit the painters in museums. Search for the way they think. Renoir, Van Gogh, Velasquez. To achieve their effects, they’re quite willing to take the long way around. It’s how they solve their unhappiness.

They’re not ashamed of all-out beauty. Nor do they reject ugliness.

As a writer, you’re quite willing to take a few thousand words to say what you could say in 50. And when you do, you discover you’re saying things you never imagined or knew before. That’s the magic.

The magic will always show up, if you go on long enough.

    That was great, Jon.

I asked a late friend, who was a professional photographer, what ‘made’/told him to capture that scene, and he told me (in essence) that inspiration was an individual thing, because it’s about the art, not the idea of what art (or an artist) should be.

I take it to mean that inspiration is unexplainable, and serendipitous.

I remember those words, as advice, but not intended as so, when I hear, “You’re crazy, you’re not supposed to (_generic nonsense/govtalk inserted here_).”

Advice to naysayers: If I don’t hurt anyone, with MY art/invention/idea, then (kindly?) just S_T_F_U, okay?

“And when you do, you discover you’re saying things you never imagined or knew before. That’s the magic.” This is inspiring, thank you.

“Open up your language and let it rip.”

Language yes, and lots of other aspects of one’s life today as well need to be ‘let rip’. Fully and without regret. Lustfully, with a wicked smile and waving index finger. With creative fire coming out of your eyes and sparks coming out of your hands and fingers and feet.

Since birth, most people have become thoroughly convinced that ‘coloring outside the lines’ is bad. Conformity is good. Sameness is good. Not standing out is good. Not trying to excel is good. Be average. Be one of the crowd. Follow orders… without question. Be a NOTHING and that’s how you take your place in this society as a ‘something’.

We get this message from parents. We get it from teachers. We get it from preachers. We get it from our peer group. We get it CONSTANTLY from State Corporate mass media mind torture. We get it from our grifter politicians. We get it from our bosses and work colleagues. We get this message from EVERYONE.

And this message we are getting from Everywhere is toxic and soul-crushing. It is a direct opposite of who and what we are and why were put on this Earth. It takes away our vitality and energy. It dulls us down and puts us to sleep.

And then… we get addicted to this empty sameness. We forget how to think. We forget how it feels to feel good. We forget the joy of creating something new and all of our own… or just rearranging things that already exist into a pattern or form that no one else had thought of before and making something out of that.

When everyone tells you to go THIS WAY… we need to learn to go THE OTHER WAY. When someone tells you to think THIS WAY… we need to tell them to shut up because your thoughts are happily going off the Ranch in another direction. Of YOUR own choosing.

When someone tells you They love you but not if you don’t do X, Y and Z… then tell Then to HIT THE ROAD and go find someone who will love and support you in all of your radically free and unpredictable ways.

If your family wonders what has happened to you… tell them that you FOUND yourself for the first time in your life. And if They still love you, they REALLY love you. And if They don’t, They never really loved you in the first place.

When people look back on their lives, They don’t say, ‘Damn! I wish I had been much more of a CONFORMIST. I wish I had followed everyone else’s rules more closely!’ They don’t say these things because those notions are unfulfilling nonsense.

What people DO say is… ‘Damn! Why didn’t I take that chance? Why didn’t I follow my heart and go where I WANTED TO GO and not where everyone else told me to go. Why didn’t I trust myself enough to THINK for myself and not seek safety in group think and the crushing conformity of peer pressure groups?.’

In short, what They say is, ‘Damn! Time is fast a-wasting and I HAVEN’T EVEN BEGUN TO LIVE YET!’

And when you come to THAT place… you look into the mirror the next chance you get and see your real face for the FIRST TIME. You are introduced TO YOURSELF. You meet Yourself. And you begin to really like what you see. And you feel things you never felt before. And it feels GOOD. And NEW. And FRESH. And filled with ENERGY.

Yes, indeed. Let it rip! Even if no one supports you when you do it. You don’t need people like that in your Life. They are anchors and dead-weights holding you back. Move on from them, or put them more on the back-burner.

What you DO need is to have that free feeling of discovering something new in the World and in Yourself even if it lasts only a few moments. Because a few moments of true freedom is worth more than a thousand years of being a NOTHING.

Let it rip… and show that big wide grin while you’re doing it.
