Here are brief excerpts from my work-in-progress, The Magician Awakes:

“Nature doesn’t change its fundamental processes.  They continue.  They repeat, through endless generations.  A tree doesn’t suddenly become a glass tower.  But individuals can change realities at the drop of a hat.  This is not considered important.  But it is important.”

“What is called ‘subjective’ is thought of, thanks to psychology, as inferior to ‘the real world’.  But why?  Why is this the guiding principle?  Why are people cut off from what they dream after they dream it?  You can search heaven and earth for an answer, and you won’t find a good one.  But the relationship between you and what you dream is vital.  It is you looking at your own dream and seeing something there, or inventing something there.  That connection has been ignored.  It is as if you have a private dynamo in your basement, and it can supply all the energy you need, but instead you continue to pay your bill to the public energy company, and you believe the public energy is superior.”

“Suppose you created something you love.  You would look at it.  You would find something there.  You would, in your private thoughts, build something more on what you found.  This process is life blood.  It is a key to magic.  It is not taught, because it can’t be taught.  There is no system for it.  It is a route by which you discover that your world is more important than the physical world.”

“In my book, The Secret Behind Secret Societies, I detail my relationship and work with a brilliant healer, Richard Jenkins.  He made sure I understood he was pursuing a path unique to him.  He was improvising in the moment.  He wasn’t following a protocol.  The physical world and its properties were, for him, a minor fact.  By doing his healing, he was introducing a new element into the world: spontaneity.  And that alone was enough to heal.  It was the ‘other life’, as he put it.”

“I have done a bit of work in theater.  This is what I realized.  If you had an audience, and they sat there and watched actors improvise on a given premise or situation, over and over, for a few hours, nothing might happen.  But then, all of a sudden, one improvisation would take them by storm.  It would truly be spontaneous.  It would induce a kind of healing or magic, and the audience would be taken out of themselves.  They would be set on fire, and the fire would be the magic of the moment, entirely fresh, new, bubbling beyond the rules of cause and effect.  No proof of this would be needed.  The audience would feel it, experience it.”

“As wonderful as you might perceive the physical world and nature to be, it has a built-in rule.  All its changes occur within certain limits.  In this sense, the world is established against those changes which could be called magic.  The world is proof that magic can’t happen.  This is a lie, a very clever lie.  It is an illusion.  Why bother to invent an illusion unless it is convincing?  The ancient Tibetans understood all this.  They engaged in practices designed to set aside the illusion and render it null and void.  In this way, they brought in imagination as the prime originator.  They were revolutionaries.  That’s why theocrats labored to take over the Tibetan culture, and that’s why, at bottom, the Chinese State felt it had to dismantle Tibet and its tradition…”

Here are more excerpts from my ongoing work, The Magician Awakes:

“Space is ‘magnetically attached’ to the creative impulse.”

“A painting is hanging in a room in a museum. Think about the space the painter creates inside the painting. That space does not exist in the physical world, in the way a wall or a floor does. It comes INTO the world through the imagination of the painter and the viewer.”

“Exploring space is not the same thing as inventing it. Children can be shown this in a few minutes.”

“When you invent enough spaces (see my exercises in Exit From The Matrix), you begin to understand the world and the universe are one kind of painting; you can invent thousands or millions of other spaces. This understanding isn’t theoretical. It’s vivid.”

“No one has a monopoly on space and time. Artists have been revealing this for centuries.”

“Propaganda tries to define a space inside which people live and think and respond according to pre-established guidelines. It’s a conjuring trick. The primary rule of propaganda is quantity over quality. If its messages come in a flood, the assumption is people will occupy a single space and stay there.”

“Each organized religion invents its own super-space. Each religion pretends it didn’t invent anything—it’s simply reporting the top metaphysical news.”

“The New York Times is a universe. The Washington Post is a universe. The LA Times is a universe. But they choose to cooperate and reflect identical positions on the most important stories. After all, propaganda has a serious problem if the primary distributors change the messages and disagree with each other. The centralized propaganda-space would break down.”

“Your future begins as an uncreated space. But as soon as you contemplate it, think about it, space opens up. This isn’t world-space or physical space. It’s yours. If everyone knew that, life would change immediately.”

These are brief excerpts from my work-in-progress, The Magician Awakes:

“A person’s life is an art form, and that is magic. He might persist in saying, ‘But what I really want to do is levitate a chair’. If he keeps expanding the art form that is his life, perhaps, one day, as a matter of course, as a side effect, he will levitate a chair. Or maybe the idea will stop being a concern to him at all.”

“Curl your index finger this way, look up at the ceiling, wiggle your hips four times, and purse your lips—this is what most people would want if they were studying magic: a formula. Something handed down from ancient times. If you told them they ‘had a place’ and needed to find it, they would like that, too. They’d walk around the yard trying to find the spot where they ought to stand, hoping they would feel different there. They’d do almost anything that didn’t directly involve themselves.”

“Consider two streams of cause and effect. The first one is composed of daily actions. Ordinary actions. A leads to B, B to C, C to D, and so on. The second stream has the same pattern, but is composed of events that are happening ‘behind the curtain’. Secret events. From the second series, you would learn something new. But in neither case would you be learning magic. Magic involves breaking the chain of cause and effect.”

“Magic is the opposite of being passive. Being passive is powerful medicine. It is not only addicting, it’s cumulative. And people program themselves to believe in a passive state of mind. To have a conviction about it, while denying they’re in that state. Passivity has a crude brilliance. It’s the best thing people can offer up. It’s their best piece of inner architecture.”

“There is a whole list of emotions people can use to cement their status as passive. Each emotion has the illusion of power and permanence. ‘I can’t do anything about what I’m feeling’.”

“A person says, ‘I want to remain exactly as I am, but I also want to do magic’. Where is that going to lead? It’s even stronger: ‘I absolute demand that I remain exactly as I am, but I also want to do magic.’ That’s like saying, ‘I want to run a mile in under four minutes while I sit in this chair, and nobody is going to get me out of this chair’.”

Exit From the Matrix

“People have symbols and images of their current lives. These symbols exist in their mental landscape: a yard, a fence, a house, a family, a job, a car, a vacation, and so on. Their mental activity consists of going around from symbol to symbol, and then, arriving back at the beginning, doing it again. Day after day, year after year. If you tell them to replace these symbols with others, how is that going to work out? Replace? No. They need to embark on some new action, which will become important enough to them so that, eventually, the whole merry-go-round of symbols fades away into obscurity. That doesn’t mean they desert their families. It means they launch something new and thrilling. Tinkering with symbols has no effect.”

“The physical body, the whole physical apparatus that the immortal YOU inhabits, is waiting for you to live through and by imagination. If you do, it shifts gears and enters a new level(s) of energy.”
